I photographed this set back in the Autumn, but have only just sat down to add these to the blog – the wait has been worth it for me though and revisiting these images to compile this post has been gratifying as I had forgotten how much I like these images – so it gives me great  pleasure to share them.

So we roll back to October and a trip out to Hertfordshire to visit this young man and his parents for a portrait shoot. Before I arrived, I had been asked to capture some strong black and white portraits and general documentary shoots of the family.   A sleeping baby greeted me, which made for a relaxed start capturing some detail and making the most of a still baby.

A Saturday back in September saw me photographing the wedding of Kate and Stephen who I first met back in March for their (very cold) pre-wedding shoot in St Albans.  Their venue, the magnificent Sculpture gallery at Woburn Abbey.  After an early meet with Stephen and his best man and grooms-men, a meeting with the delightful registrar (who was also the brides Aunt) we waited for Kate’s arrival and entrance.

The sculpture gallery at Woburn is a lovely venue – gorgeous light through the large windows and a stunning backdrop for wedding photographs.  The grounds surrounding are equally as photogenic and proved ideal for some great pictures of the bride and groom before we rejoined the main party at a drinks reception inside.

Whilst the main body of wedding guests took a trip around the adjoining safari park, Kate and Stephen had a quick spin into Woburn itself, which was hosting it’s annual oyster festival, before heading back to the safari park to  join the rest of the guests for their reception (which is coming up in part two).

I especially enjoyed photographing baby Isabelle as it feels like a stage of a very pleasurable journey (of being photographer for her parents engagement, wedding and maternity portraits)  has ended and a new one has begun with this newborn shoot. I am looking forward to going back to visit this lovely family and to shooting them again- as her dad said to me when we sat down to view these baby portraits, ‘this is great, it’s like having your own official  family portrait photographer‘ – which to me was a great compliment.

I’m looking forward to Natalie and Adrian’s wedding in a little less than two weeks – they are going to do something a little different.  In the meantime, we journey back a couple of weeks to a sunny Saturday afternoon when I met them for an engagement portrait shoot around London’s Primrose Hill & Regents Canal near Camden.

No trip to Primrose Hill would be complete without stopping to admire the London skyline.

But the sun  drove us into some shade and some time for some reflection.

and there was just time for one last doorway before heading back to the pub to finish up our wedding planning discussions.

A hot and sunny July day saw me driving down to Surrey to meet some fellow wedding photographers who are also listed on the UK Wedding Photographer website at Mayfield Lavender for a day of shooting bridal portraits using some very talented models.

Anyway, I digress, which wasn’t the purpose of this post – I wanted to share with you some of the images I shot. Firstly, we have the lovely Claire.

Despite that demure start, Claire soon had lots of fun running around, twirling the skirts of the fantastic dress she was modelling.

Time for a couple of B&W photographs- loosing the colour of the field really highlights the textures of the lavender and the wedding dress.

We were fortunate in being joined by Scott as our sole ‘groom’ for the day – whilst bridal makeup was adjusted and hair arranged, I borrowed him for some quick portraits – grooms are just as important as brides and they often get overlooked in the hustle and bustle of an actual wedding.   This was also a slightly nostalgic shoot for me as I had lent Scott the Harris Tweed suit that I used to wear at school whilst doing my A-Levels  – sadly it doesnt fit me anymore (I must have had a late growth spurt!) but I think it looked really good on him and suited the slightly vintage feel of the following photographs.

Hair and makeup adjusted, we were joined by another bridal model, Ellie for a few more shots.

I have to say a big thanks to our makeup team for the day who were the extremely talented Lakbinder & Karen – thank you both for your behind the scenes work to make our models look stunning.

This was a pretty successful day, both photographically and also meeting and networking with like minded souls.  I always enjoy networking with other wedding photographers – we chat, share stories, swap ideas, but days like this are especially important for us. Why? Shooting with other photographers and working on concepts and images allows us to build a rapport and trust which can be beneficial should we ever need to ask that individual to second shoot with us or to even step into our shoes if (God forbid) we were unable to shoot a couples big day due to serious illness or a dire emergency  (knowing that in that dire  situation you can say to a couple that you have a replacement that will fulfill their expectations is a little consolation and it is always good to be prepared).  I always like to make sure my wedding couples know that I have thought of contingency plan should the worst happen.

Whilst the reception was in full swing, and guests were being entertained with some music, I took the opportunity to take the bride and groom away for a portrait session –  something I do with all my couples – just a quick 15-20 minutes alone, uninterrupted by guests to get some beautiful portraits for their wedding album.  The metal doors of a barn in the adjoining farmyard provided the backdrop for some of these, as well as the structure providing some much needed relief from the bright sunshine we were blessed with.

Then it was back to join the party, assemble a few relaxed group shots we had elected to save for the reception and capture lots of candid photographs of people enjoying themselves, before the bride and groom joined everyone for their wedding breakfast.

I have to confess I really enjoyed shooting Dan and Lucy’s wedding – they are a delightfully easy going and relaxed couple, with a great group of family and friends – it was an absolute pleasure to work with them on recording their wedding day.

You may remember Dan and Lucy from their engagement photographs at Hylands House, Chelmsford earlier this year. I have been itching to post the full set of images from Lucy and Dan’s wedding at All Saints church, Stock, Essex and party at Great Prestons for several weeks. However, an extended honeymoon for this lovely couple delayed me doing so – after-all the bride and groom have the privilege of seeing the images first.   So we go back in time slightly to early June. A bright summers day saw me capturing the bridal preparations, wedding dress and a gorgeous pair of Kurt Geiger shoes.

This was followed by a short drive through the lanes of Essex to Stock and the lovely All Saints Church to meet our groom and the rest of the wedding party awaiting the arrival of the bride.

The cool interior of the church provided some relief from the surprisingly hot sun and the light filtering through the windows was perfect for capturing some beautiful black and white photographs of the wedding ceremony.

I feel really privileged to have been booked by this lovely couple for a ‘bump to baby’ portrait session – having been party to their wedding preparations and wedding day in early 2010, to be invited back to capture their growing baby bump a few weeks before the birth of their first child was a great honour.  We met in their new home and after a quick cup of tea braved the truly atrocious wet weather to head out to the local park. The ruins of St Albans’ Sopwell House (a former nunnery from pre-dissolution days)  provided some much needed shelter from the rain and meant we could dispense with the umbrellas.  We had already decided in pre-shoot discussions that we wanted to break with convention slightly and make this a truly family affair involving Dad too and to capture not only the beautiful baby bump but also the bond between our prospective parents.

I’ve always thought it important to record the first few months of a babies foray into the world, and having captured my own partners baby bump during her pregnancy with our son, I know what an amazing time this is – recording it has allowed us both to remember what it was like at that time and also show our son the amazing creature he was when he was that bump.

I hope you enjoy looking at these images from their shoot – I am really looking forward to being called and asked to capture part two as well as meeting the new addition to their family.

So the beginning of June saw me travelling down to the Gower peninsula in Wales to photograph the wedding of Hertfordshire couple,  Ludovic and Zoe.  This delightful couple actually got married the day before and the following day chose to have a blessing under an oak tree on the beautiful Penrice Castle Estate in the company of all of their family and friends who had travelled from far and wide to be there.  We also saw one of the hottest days of 2011 thus far for this Welsh-French union with temperatures topping 26 degrees Celsius – making this a glorious outdoor wedding and a delight to photograph.  Below are some of the highlights of the day.

I’ve known Ludovic for a number of years – we used to share an office when I worked with him, so I was delighted when he asked if I would like to be his and Zoe’s wedding photographer.  They recently took some time-out of their busy schedules of working and organising their very special wedding in Wales to meet me one May evening after work to shoot some pre-wedding portraits.  Gobions Wood, near Brookmans Park, Hertfordshire was our destination for a nice evening stroll and a chance to capture some portraits before they get married in a few weeks.
